  • Abstract:

Objective: To explore the relationship between the dosage of carbon dioxide laser irradiation and the inactivation of root canal pathogens in elderly teeth. Methods: Eighty-four isolated maxillary central incisors of the elderly were randomly divided into three groups A, B and C. Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis were inoculated respectively. Different laser irradiation doses were selected to inactivate root canal pathogens, and the concentration of pathogens was detected and analyzed by electron microscopy. Results: Laser irradiation dose of 1.6-3.6W had significant inactivation effect on Streptococcus mutans and Escherichia coli (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). With the increase of laser irradiation dose, the better inactivation effect was. When laser irradiation dose was 1.6W and 2.6W, the inactivation effect of carbon dioxide laser irradiation on Escherichia coli was significantly higher than that of Streptococcus mutans (P < 0.05). (P < 0.01). The inactivation effect in dentinal tubules in group C3 was significantly higher than that in group C1 and group C2. Conclusion: Carbon dioxide laser root canal irradiation has a good inactivation effect. The greater the laser irradiation dose in a certain range, the better the sterilization effect. The sterilization rate of different bacteria is different. Repeated irradiation can enhance the sterilization effect.
